Former news anchor Katie Couric has split from her boyfriend Brooks Perlin after a five year relationship. She met Perlin, 17 years her junior, at a cancer research fundraising event in 2006 and the pair immediately struck up a romance.
However, according to People magazine, the couple have decided to call it a day, with a friend saying they were "at different stages in their careers", before adding "The split was inevitable". Katie was previously married to Jay Monahan and the pair had two daughters together, but he tragically died of colon cancer in 1998, aged just 42. The latest breakup doesn't appear to be slowing the news personality down though - she is currently working on her debut daytime talk show 'Katie', which is slated to hit ABC in 2012. Her pal claimed she is "just as active and engaged as always", adding, "Brooks is a good guy but there is a time for each relationship - and the time is past for this one". Earlier this year, Couric had sparked rumors of unrest after calling her romance with Perlin "complicated", adding, "I'm in the process of figuring out the future, and so is he".
The split appears to be amicable and Brooks is said to be in the process of moving out of Couric's Upper East Side home in New York.
