The Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates has had a double mastectomy, after being diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago, Sky News have reported. This is not the first time that Bates has battled cancer, either. The 64 year old was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, back in 2003 and revealed just three years ago that she had overcome the disease. Kathy made the announcement regarding her recent operation, via Twitter.
Over two messages, Kathy revealed "Hey All, sorry for the long silence. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 months ago & am recovering from a double mastectomy. I don't miss my breasts as much as I miss Harry's Law. ;-) Thanks for all the sweet tweets. Y'all kept me going." Harry's Law is the NBC law drama in which she starred, which was cancelled last May. After re-tweeting a series of supportive text messages from her Twitter followers, Kathy posted another goodnight message to them, saying "Okay, Tweeters. Nighty night. Y'all have been amazing in your love and support. Right back at you. Y'all are in my prayers tonight. Peace..."
Bates won the Best Actress Oscar in 1991 for her role in Misery. This year, she is nominated for two Emmy awards, for her role in Harry's Law and for her guest appearance in Two and a Half Men.
