Actress Katherine Heigl has withdrawn her $6 million (£3.5 million) lawsuit against U.S. drugstore chain Duane Reade.

The star sued the company after bosses posted a paparazzi photo of her carrying their shopping bags on social media sites.

She claimed that Duane Reade marketing men had violated the false advertising provision of the Lanham Act, as well as New York civil rights statutes protecting the use of likenesses for the purpose of trade.

The company chiefs upset the former Grey's Anatomy star with the photo that was captioned, "Love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even @KatieHeigl can't resist shopping #Nyc's favorite drugstore."

Papers to dismiss the lawsuit were submitted in New York federal court on Tuesday (26Aug14).
