Kate Upton finds modelling ''lonely''.

The 23-year-old beauty has confessed she thinks modelling is a ''solitary profession'' and often gets lonely while travelling across the globe.

While Kate is now used to flying around the country for shoots, she added she would often ask her friends and family to join her in the past to help keep her amused.

She said: ''I started working abroad when I was 15 and my mum and dad would often come. The thing is with modelling, you don't actually need someone there; it just gets lonely.

''I pretty much had it under control because I travelled so much - land, go through customs, get in a taxi, go to the hotel, go to work... I had the whole thing down. But I'd get bored on the flights and it's not fun to hang out with yourself for days at a time. It can be a solitary profession.

''My family is so important to me, they're my support system and they've been there from the beginning so any free moment I have, I call or hang out with them.''

The Sports Illustrated star also opened up about her body hang ups and confessed she never feels insecure on set but is more worried about how she looks when she is lounging on the beach with friends.

She told Hello! Fashion Monthly: ''I think all women are similar; we all struggle with the same things when it comes to body image and wanting to be beautiful. I'm the same when I'm on the beach with my friends or when there are paparazzi around, but being on a fashion shoot is like an acting job. I feel like I'm a different character and that character doesn't get pangs of anxiety.''
