The Australian radio station behind the royal hoax call - which resulted in the suspected suicide of nurse Jacintha Saldana - are donating $500,000 to her family.

Southern Cross Austereo, the parent company of 2Day FM who made the call, are giving all their advertising profits to Jacintha's husband Benedict Barboza and their two children, Junal, 16, and Lisha, 14, to create a memorial fund for the nurse - who died last week (07.12.12) shortly after answering the call at King Edward VII hospital regarding Duchess Catherine's condition.

Rhys Holleran, the company's chief executive officer, said: ''We are very sorry for what has happened. It is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts continue to be with the family. We hope that by contributing to a memorial fund we can help to provide the Saldanha family with the support they need at this very difficult time.

''The company today reiterates that it is deeply saddened by this tragic and unforeseen event and offers its condolences to the family of Jacintha Saldanha.''

This generous gesture comes after the station's owners cancelled all advertising for the company as well as the staff Christmas party.

Mel Greig and Michael Christian, the DJs behind the prank, recently gave their first interview since the incident and described the guilt as ''gut wrenching''.

Mel told told Australian TV show 'A Current Affair': ''There is not a minute that goes by where we don't think about [Jacintha's] family and what they must be going through. The thought that we may have played a part in that is gut wrenching.''

A post-mortem examination on Ms Saldanha was held today (11.12.12).
