The Vatican has paid homage to late POPE JOHN PAUL II with an hour-long animation of his life. The cartoon, produced by a Spanish film company, aims to raise awareness of the pontiff's extraordinary life among young people who may never have heard of him. It charts the early years of Polish-born Karol Wojtyla before concentrating on his election as Pope in 1978, an assassination attempt in 1981, and his travels across the globe. It is narrated by a pair of white doves. Father FEREDICO LOMBARDI, head of Vatican Radio and the Vatican press office, says, "We wanted to speak to children, in their own language." JOHN PAUL II - FRIEND OF ALL HUMANITY was launched yesterday (17OCT06).
