Karl Urban endured gut-busting workouts for new film 'Dredd 3D'.
The Kiwi actor - who starred as Eomer in the second and third 'Lord Of The Rings' - underwent a rigorous fitness regime to achieve the muscular stature of comic book character Judge Dredd in the forthcoming movie.
He said: ''Dredd cuts a very imposing figure in the comic books so I worked intensively with a trainer for 12-15 weeks and got into fantastic shape, the best shape of my life in fact.
''Half of getting into shape is eating the right food, so every two hours you have to feed your body the right nutrients in order for it to respond and for the muscles to repair and grow. Staying in shape is a full-time job and one that I don't particularly enjoy.''
The 40-year-old actor insists building up muscles wasn't the only challenge he faced in preparation for the film, which based on 2000 Ad's sci-fi action comic 'Judge Dredd'.
He added to TNT magazine: ''As an actor, your eyes are one of the most valuable tools.
''So it was certainly tough working on a project where I was denied the use of them. Working on Dredd was very intense, but I thrive in that environment.''
