We all know her as Amy Pond, but now former 'Doctor Who' star Karen Gillan has actually crossed the pond, to star in ‘Selfie’ a new sitcom debuting as part of ABC’s fall line-up. A lengthily trailer for the new series has just been released, as well as a semi naked ‘selfie’ from Karen herself, meaning we’re all abuzz about her latest offering. But what do we know so far about the upcoming comedy?

It’s about social media. right?

Well no, but as the title shows, social media does play an important part in ‘Selfie’. The plot of the series sees My Fair Lady given a very 21st century twist. Karen stars as Eliza Dooley, a modern woman who used to be ‘butt ugly’ but is now far from it. She enjoys posting countless pictures of herself to social media, but her obsession has led her to become a little on the shallow side, leaving her with no actual friends. In order to get more out of real life, Eliza enlists a ‘marketing guru’ to help her rebuild her image and make actual friends, as opposed to all the fake ones she has online. Cue lots of 'transformation' sequences and plus an unlikely 'love-interest'.

So who’s behind it?

Emily Kapnek, of 'Suburgetory 'and Nickelodeon series As Told by Ginger is ‘Selfies’ creator and co-executive producer. Kapnek is fast becoming a pretty big deal in TV land, having won three Emmy awards and also working as a consulting co-producer on ‘Parks and Recreation’. Producing with Emily is Julie Anne Robinson, a British television director who’s worked on shows such as ‘Pushing Daisies’ and ‘Big Love’.

We know Karen, but who else is starring?

Playing Eliza’s Henry Higgins is John Cho, aka Harold from Harold and Kumar. Recently he’s been appearing on Fox’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’ and also starred in Star Trek Into Darkness last year. Alongside Karen and John we also have Broadway star Da'Vine Joy Randolph and comedienne Allyn Rachel.

When can we watch it?

‘Selfie’ will debut on ABC this fall and will be part of the channel’s Tuesday line-up, taking the 8pm slot.

So is ‘Selfie’ really worth watching?

Okay, so we’ve sat through the over three minute ‘Selfie’ trailer and all we can say is, we still love you Karen. Really, ‘Selfie’ doesn’t look too promising and we’re wondering how its loose premise can actually be stretched out for an entire series. As great as Karen is, this one is going to be a struggle. Still trailers can't tell us everything, so we are prepared to give ‘Selfie’ the benefit of the doubt. But only because it’s you Karen.
