Rapper Kanye West made OPRAH show history when he appeared on the talk show recently - because he was the first person to predict his rise to fame and live up to his promise to Oprah Winfrey.

West met the media mogul when he was an unknown after she took an interest in his car while driving through New York.

And after they chatted about his vehicle, ambitious West promised Oprah he'd appear on her sofa one day.

West recalled, "You started just asking regular questions about the car and I'm like, 'OK, it drives cool, I've just got it... but I wanna be on your show one day. I'm from Chicago.'"

Winfrey remembered the 2002 meeting: "You said, 'I'm going to be on your show,' and I was more interested in the car.

"People say that to me all the time - they say, 'Hey Oprah, I just wrote a book,' or 'I'm a singer,' but you're the first person who ever made that true."

The rapper grew up not far from Winfrey's Chicago, Illinois TV studio and would often eat at a restaurant across the street, so he could dream about an appearance.

He added, "I'd come over and just look at the studio and go, 'One day I'll be inside that studio.'"

West's dream come true was taped recently and aired on Friday (09SEP05).
