Kanye West's rap protege Big Sean was the guest of honour at a New York music event on Monday (01Oct11) when he was tipped as a Rising Icon.
The hip-hop star took the stage at the Hudson Hotel's Good Units venue to launch the third season of the Grey Goose Entertainment initiative, which celebrates emerging musical talent, and Big Sean admits he is humbled by the recognition.
He tells WENN, "It means a lot, the fact that you can be recognised for doing music. Sometimes you can't always tell whether what you're doing is the right thing, but this is a good indication."
R&B singers Marsha Ambrosius and Miguel, and up-and-coming rapper Future were also hailed as the most influential new artists on the scene at the bash, and former Floetry star Ambrosius insists she is determined to "live up to" the honour.
She says, "(It means) everything. I'm glad that I've been given this title... It's something to live up to and I'm here for the challenge."
