Kim Kardashian has broken tradition by avoiding alliterating her child's name. The reality star and rapper partner Kanye West named their baby North West. The baby girl was born on 16th June, 5 weeks early but perfectly healthy.

It does seem like a very, very poor joke at the expense of their child but the couple are being deadly serious in choosing possibly one of the most unusual names in the history of celebrity.

Initial thoughts on the naming of the child by the press queried why the child would be named North. Possibly because West is from the North of the US as he is from Chicago.

Of course the answer to the riddle of why anyone would call their child North West is not that simple. In fact the answer makes absolutely no sense, but welcome to the world of poor celebrity taste.

According to a source reporting to E! the couple have said "North means highest power." Furthermore, in naming the baby after, the source eloquently puts it "the most high", it signifies to their child and to anyone else who wants to delve into the 'depths' of Kardashian and West, that North is their guiding light 'their north star' and the 'highest point' in their relationship.

Even with criticisms of their children's name, West should not care as he stated in an interview with W magazine that "At a certain point, or always, love is more important than any branding, or any set of cool people, or attempting to impress anyone." As for Kardashian, reports suggest, she is enjoying motherhood.
