Great to see the end of that feud.
Kanye West and Jimmy Kimmel offered everyone a lesson in conflict resolution, when the rapper/fashion designer/tabloid headline generator accepted Kimmel’s invitation to an interview. Then the two sat down, apologized, saw each other’s point of view and reconciled. And that’s how it’s done, folks.
Kanye West used his appearance to appeal for a return to common decency.
The full interview is available on JKL’s youtube channel, separated between six videos, but suffice it to say that a lot of below-the-surface issues came up during the interview. If you’re still not caught up on the celebrity feud du jour, the feud started after Kimmel spoofed a recent interview that West did with BBC Radio, or rather, the most outrageous bits. The talk show host had kids read out some of Kanye’s statement and, admittedly, the bit was pretty funny. Then West erupted into a Twitter rant against the talk show host and boom – brand new celebrity feud.
Both he and Kardashian are fed up with the intrusiveness of the paparazzi.
But during last night’s interview, the two celebrities all but kissed and made up. Kimmel apologized and admitted that he hadn’t seen the whole interview. West, on the other hand, explained that the tweets against the host were an outlet for his pent up frustration with overly intrusive media outlets over the past few months. It is true that he and his ladylove Kim Kardashian received unprecedented attention from various media outlets in the months leading up to the birth of their daughter and even after.
The conversation then went into West’s struggle to break into the fashion world and even included an inspirational message from the rapper. Of course, Ye went on a long and excited tirade, in classic style, but what he said actually made him seem more human than we’ve been used to. He concluded with an appeal for mutual respect: “And I understand paparazzi, it’s hard out here, you gotta get your money… but let’s have respect for each other.” Words of wisdom, Mr. West.
At least he and Kimmel worked it out though.
