Kanye West has claimed that ''when you're the absolute best, you get hated on the most''.

The 37-year-old rapper spoke to students at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and told them how he had to ''fight to be accepted'' into the fashion world, after starting out as a musician.

Kanye said: ''It's a tough world out there,'' he said. ''You're going to prepare yourself for politics, bad bosses, hating employees - and usually when you're the absolute best, you get hated on the most.''

The 'All Day' hitmaker - who is married to Kim Kardashian West - was forced to complete 250 hours of community service by teaching at the college after a brawl with paparazzi in 2013, but has stayed on as a volunteer mentor ever since, and, in his speech, said how ''honored'' he was to be at the school and able to inspire students.

According to ETOnline, Kanye added: ''I'm really honored to be here tonight around so many creative people, so many dreamers. As a lot of you know, I really love fashion, and it's been a love of mine as far back as I can remember.

''It's something that I've always had to fight to be accepted to love, and I empathize with anyone who has ever loved fashion because it's not like loving the idea of being a lawyer or becoming a doctor.''
