Following the widely reported incident at last weekend’s Coachella festival where he was kicked out by the security team at Drake’s performance, Selena Gomez has leapt Justin Bieber’s defense, saying that what happened was “totally unnecessary” and “unfortunate”.

TMZ reported on Tuesday that the ‘Baby’ singer was refused access to the celeb-filled artists’ area because it was full, despite having a valid wristband. An unnamed source has now told HollywoodLife that 22 year old Gomez is on her ex-boyfriend’s side in the dispute.

“Selena heard about what happened to Justin at Drake’s concert and thought it was unfortunate,” the insider said. “She said putting Justin in a chokehold seemed totally unnecessary and that poor choices were made. She doesn’t believe Justin was at fault,” the source continued.

The singer is believed to have remonstrated with the backstage security guards, as he wanted to watch Drake in a place where he wouldn’t be absolutely mobbed by fans. Which is a fair point, if you think about it.

21 year old Bieber is of course the celebrity that people love to hate. At the end of March, he was the subject of a Comedy Central ‘roast’, conducted by comedian Kevin Hart and featuring a number of celebrities including Will Ferrell’s Anchorman character Ron Burgundy. The programme was third most-watched of its kind in Comedy Central history.

Last week, it was widely reported that an Argentinian judge authorised a warrant for Bieber’s arrest if he ever returned to the South American country, following allegations of an assault carried out on a local photographer by Bieber’s bodyguards at a Buenos Aires nightspot in November 2013.

Bieber and his legal team are reportedly considering legal action against the individuals in the Coachella security unit that ejected him.
