Veteran singer Julio Iglesias has been left devastated after an inferno ravaged his luxury home in Spain and killed his beloved pet dog.
The Spanish star has a sprawling estate in the hills of Ojen, Marbella but was thrown into a panic when forest fires swept the region last month (Aug12).
Iglesias was not staying in the mansion at the time, but he was left stunned when he contacted housekeepers and was told the blaze had wrecked the grounds of the property and killed his pet pooch, Chaplin.
He tells Britain's Hello! magazine, "News of the fire was some of the worst of my life (sic). This home was - and is - the realisation of my dreams. I am devastated.
"I was in the Dominican Republic, but I was in constant contact with the people who work on the property. It was distressing because they escaped quite late - just five minutes before the flames reached the house. They didn't realise how strong the wind was, and they discovered the fire was almost at the door... It could have been a much bigger disaster.
"(My family) cried for two whole days... (But) those gardens will grow back. In a few years, it will be perfect again."
