Actress Juliette Lewis was uncomfortable playing a heroin addict in Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut - because she's a recovering addict herself.
The Cape Fear actress fought with Ruffalo over one tough scene in Sympathy For Delicious and the first-time director urged her to walk away and take a break. His advice worked for both of them and Lewis later called the Zodiac star to apologise.
The actor recalls, "She really didn't want to do that scene. It was written into the character, but she was resistant to playing it. I told her... to take a break because it wasn't working.
"I've learned that the best way to deal with some of this stuff is to not deal with it, to turn your back on it. About two or three hours later she called me and she was like, 'I'm really sorry. I'm throwing up a lot of resistance because this brings up a lot of heavy s**t.'
"I was like, 'Join the rest of us, babe'."
