Mexican stars Julieta Venegas and Cafe Tacvba joined American rockers MAROON 5 as the big winners at last night's (21OCT04) MTV LATIN AMERICA VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS (VMALAs).

Venegas was queen on the night as she picked up three gongs, including Artist Of The Year, at the star-studded bash in Miami Beach, Florida's Jackie Gleason Theater.

Fellow Mexicans Cafe Tacvba were honoured with the Video Of The Year and Best Alternative Act awards, while Maroon 5 were named Best Rock Artist: International and Best New Artist: International.

U2 frontman Bono opened the show in Spanish and welcomed on stage Latina superstar Paulina Rubio for a sexy performance.

The crowd were entertained by Diego Torres, - who picked up Best Artist: Argentina - La Ley, Lenny Kravitz, The Rasmus, TIZIANO FERRO, Juanes, ALEX UBAGO, Venegas, and the BLACK EYED PEAS - who were named Best International Hip Hop/R+B Artist.

Other winners on the night include La Oreja de Van Gogh, Alejandro Sanz, Airbag, TK, Avril Lavigne, CEMENTERIO CLUB, BELINDA and CAPRI.
