Moviemaker Julie Taymor has blamed for the initial failure of her much-maligned Broadway musical Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark, insisting too many people used the social network to voice their opinions before the show was ready.
The director was back onstage when the musical officially opened last week (ends17Jun11), after walking away from the project in March (11) following delays, a string of bad reviews and safety issues.
Speaking at a a conference of theatre professionals in New York over the weekend (18Jun11), Taymor said her producers were wrong to stage the show for a focus group in February (11).
She explained, "It’s very scary if people are going more towards that, to have audiences tell you how to make a show... Shakespeare would have been appalled."
