The “Before Midnight” co-star Julie Delpy has claimed that the Oscars’ voting committee is comprised of old bored rich white men.
The French-American actress and screenwriter is frustrated about the inequality that continues to surface in films today. She also claims that the “old men” within the Oscar voting committee take bribes for votes.
Julie Delpy claims Academy Awards' voting committee takes bribes
"We have the Golden Globes. If you could see it, you wouldn't believe that there's anything good about it. The same goes for the Oscars," Delpy told So Film, via the Irish Independent. "It's 90 percent white men over 70 who need money because they haven't done anything in a long time. You just need to give them two or three presents and they're in your pocket. It doesn't mean anything to me, so I don't really care if there are women in the selection process."
Delpy’s outrage is the latest of feuds over disparity issues, there has been quite a few heated conversations about an infographic released by the New York Film Academy. The infographic is said to highlight some of the issues regarding gender inequality currently in Hollywood.
Angelina Jolie ranked as the highest paid actress in 2013 with an income of $33 million. Jolie’s salary ranked among the two lowest men on the list. In addition, Lee & Low Books chart claims only a mere 23 percent of the Academy are female.
Delpy is currently up for an Oscar award for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Before Midnight.” The actress stated that the awards are meaningless because of the voting committee. Delpy also believes that the Weinstein brothers have ruined the independent movie scene, even claiming that her own movies have been crap.
"Every time I've become a part of the Hollywood mainstream, it's been crap! Let's be honest: 90% of movies made in Hollywood are crap," stated Delpy.
