Julianne Hough has gained ample attention for her ill-advised Halloween costume, after she went to a pre-Halloween bash in Los Angeles dressed as Orange is the New Black character Crazy Eyes, complete with blackened skin. As criticism erupted, Hough quickly apologised for offending anyone and insisted that she meant no harm when she wore the blackface, stating that she is regretful and fully aware of the upset she may have caused.

With the controversy surrounding her showing no signs of abating, some of her cohorts on Dancing With the Stars have decided to lend their word to the argument, insisting that the professional dancer made a mistake, but it is one that should be forgiven and forgotten.

The 25-year-old actress, who is best known for her starring role in Safe Haven, appeared at the Casamigos Tequila Halloween Party in Los Angeles on Friday, 25 October. She and a group of friends attended the party dressed as the cast of Orange Is the New Black, the hit all-womens prison drama from Netflix. Hough wore an orange jumpsuit, her hair in small knotty buns and dark face paint. Her costume was inspired by Crazy Eyes, the character played by actress Uzo Adubo on the popular online series.

Julianne Hough, the dancer turned singer and actress best known for her appearances on Dancing With the Stars and Safe Haven, has apologised for appearing at a Halloween party in blackface. Hough attended the Casamigos Tequila Halloween Party with friends dressed as characters from the hit series. The 25-year-old actress also applied blackface, a former theatrical makeup technique now considered incredibly offensive.

'Paradise' - Julianne Hough Is A Little Lamb Coming Of Age [Trailer + Stills]

Julianne Hough Russell Brand Octavia Spencer

In Paradise, the appropriately named Lamb Mannerheim takes the scenic route in coming of age. Scarred for life but still alive after a plane crash, Lamb shocks her home-town by taking off to Las Vegas where she meets William, a carefree bartender played by Russell Brand and Loray, a lounge singer with the cynicism to influence our main character into trying new things.

"I've got a heart full of rage and an L.L. Bean tote bag full of cash," Lamb says in the trailer. "I just want to experience worldly pleasures for the first time…the basic abominations," she adds. But are we in line for another coming of age story?

Lamb Mannerheim was a beautiful, smart, strictly religious, perfect young girl and the pride of both her parents and her local parish. That is until one day, when an accident changed her views on faith forever. Lamb suffered extreme burns over two thirds of her body after a traumatic plane crash and now she feels it's time to question her religion and all she previously believed in; after all, why had she suffered so much while trying to be as virtuous as possible? Throwing caution to the wind and horrifying her parents, she takes a vacation to none other than Las Vegas to experience the sin and debauchery she knows exist in the world. On the way she meets the glamorous lounge singer Loray and a British bartender named William who take her on a journey of freedom to fulfil her bucket list of sin and make her see that there's more to life than prayer and etiquette.

Can 'Dancing With The Stars' Survive Without Derek Hough?

Derek Hough Kellie Pickler Cheryl Cole Ryan Seacrest Julianne Hough Dancing With The Stars

Derek Hough, the main professional draw on 'Dancing With The Stars,' is likely to leave the show the good and pursue his other ambitions. After picking up the mirrorball trophy for the fourth time - this time with Kellie Pickler - Hough is believed to be considering his role on the show.

"Derek has always wanted to eventually get back to the stage or other kinds of TV projects and even films," a veteran "Dancing" insider told the Chicago Sun-Times, "I know he's had lots of offers. This seems like the right time for him to pursue all that." Though Hough found fame on Dancing With The Stars, he is known outside of the ABC hit show and was thought to be dating British pop-stat Cheryl Cole for a short time. He is the brother of Julianne Hough, the girlfriend of the hugely powerful TV mogul Ryan Seacrest.

Derek is also a big-name on the stage and has appeared in productions of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and played Ren in a West End production of 'Footloose.' Did you know he also played a Hogwarts schoolboy in Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone back in 2001?

Julianne Hough reportedly broke up with Ryan Seacrest because he didn't propose to her.

Although the 38-year-old 'American Idol' host was looking at rings, friends believe he took too long to get around to it, leading Julianne to end the two-year relationship.

A source told Us Weekly magazine: "He just wouldn't propose. [However] Ryan was this close to looking for rings. He did want to marry her. Julianne is the only girl Ryan allowed him to get serious with. He's so upset that it's over."

Safe Haven Review

Weak

Nicholas Sparks strikes again with yet another film based on a misty-eyed novel about tormented seaside romance in the romanticised American South. It's so trapped in Sparks' cliche-ridden universe that we know the entire plot right from the start, including expectations of a maudlin, possibly supernatural twist along the way and an over-sentimental climax. Fans of this sort of thing will love it, but everyone else will struggle to see it as anything more than simplistic rubbish.

The woman in peril this time is Katie (Hough), who is introduced while on the run, dying her hair blonde and jumping on a midnight bus out of Boston. When she arrives in a picture-postcard North Carolina fishing town, she takes one look at hunky shopkeeper Alex (Duhamel) and decides to stay. Not only is he handy with home repairs, but he has two smart, observant young children (Kirkland and Lomax) he's raising on his own. Even Katie's new neighbour (Smulders) thinks she should grab him while he's single. But she is of course running from something, and a tenacious cop Kevin (Lyons) on her trail.

In every movie based on a Sparks novel, we know exactly who is good and evil from the start. Sure enough, Kevin is clearly bad because he drinks vodka and is accompanied by menacing music every time we seen him. We also know there will be a surprise along the way, something that stretches the already fragile story logic beyond the breaking point. And in this film, it's also something cunningly designed to wrench tears from sensitive audience members. But everyone else in the audience will laugh at how inane it all is, bravely resisting the manipulative storytelling all the way to the happiest possible ending.

Pregnant Fergie And Husband Josh Duhamel Hit The Streets Of London

Fergie Josh Duhamel Julianne Hough

Fergie joined Josh Duhamel in London this week for the promotional campaign of his new movie Safe Haven, with Julianne Hough. Fergie, 37, recently announced she is pregnant with her first child and Josh opened up about impending fatherhood with omg! Yahoo, suggesting he "just clicks," with kids.

"It's very exciting," the 40-year-old said, "Seeing that ultrasound is unlike anything you've ever seen. Unless you've had one yourself. You're like, 'Wow, it's mine." Josh and Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie were photographed taking in the sights of the English capital, before chowing down on some pizza at popular chain restaurant Pizza Express. "I think that I've always had an affinity for kids," Duhamel suggested, "There's something about me and kids that just click. I don't know if it's because I am a kid, but it does prepare you whenever you're around them."

The actor has plenty of experience of playing fathers on-screen - he plays a dad in Safe Haven, and took on the family role for Life As We Know It in 2010. Despite this, Duhamel conceded he still has plenty to learn, "All that stuff is a learning experience for when it actually happens, but I don't think you're ever truly prepared until it's your own."

Julianne Hough Enjoys Hollywood Safe Haven Premiere, But It Could Have Been Very Different After Dodgy First Audition

Julianne Hough Josh Duhamel

As Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel – accompanied by Black Eyed Peas star Fergue – celebrated the Hollywood premiere of their forthcoming film Safe Haven in Hollywood last night, Popsugar posted a video of the female co-star in which she admitted she felt that she’d almost screwed up her audition for the role.

The film, released on Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2013), has been directed by Lasse Hallstrom and has been adapted from the book written by Nicholas Spark. It focuses on mysterious character Kate – played by Hough – who arrives in a small American town with a dark secret and her guard up. Gradually letting her guard down after allowing herself to be led into a series of relationships – including one with Duhamel’s Alex – she is ultimately faced with the decision of whether to fully admit her past and try and overcome her secret mistake.

“There were a lot of girls that went up for Katie” Hough told Popsugar. “I had my first audition and Lasse the director wasn’t even in the room. He was on Skype in New York and I was in the room with Josh … it felt very confined because we were trying to stay in front of the iPad and it was just kind of awkward. It’s hard to have chemistry and know how his style works because he does like to improvise in the audition but he wasn’t even in the room.”

Updates From Sundance Film Festival And The London Critics' Circle Awards Plus Trailers For, Stoker, Emperor And Red 2

As the Sundance Film Festival continues in Utah, buzz is emerging about the new Nicole Kidman movie Stoker, in which she plays the widowed mother of teen Mia Wasikowska as they deal with the arrival of the unexpectedly sexy Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode). From the director of Old Boy, a new trailer depicts the film as a stylish, warped and very black comedy. It comes to cinemas on March 1st.

Here in Britain, two leading awards contenders open this week. Steven Spielberg's Lincoln stars Daniel Day-Lewis, the front-runner in the Best Actor race. This would be his unprecedented third win in the category. And Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty stars Jessica Chastain, who is currently the favourite for Best Actress, although Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook is giving her some serious competition.

But no one should write off iconic French actress Emmanuelle Riva's astonishing turn in Amour. She won the London Critics' Circle Film Award for Best Actress on Sunday. The London critics also gave Amour their Film of the Year title, and it's up for Best Picture at the Oscars as well.

When Katie Feldman flees from her city and winds up in the picturesque town of Southport in North Carolina, she is initially welcomed by the close-knit community. As much as she tries to avoid it, being more fond of her own company than others, she forms bonds with her frank but friendly neighbour Jo and the quiet, widowed shop owner Alex. Alex is immediately taken to Katie and attempts to win the guarded newcomer over by fixing her a bike so she doesn't have to walk to work; however, she is reluctant to put her trust in anybody and does what she can to avoid falling in love with him. It isn't long before she finds herself giving in and following her heart, but then almost as soon as begins to believe she's safe again, her past follows her and she is faced with answering a lot of complicated questions about why she wound up in Southport.

'Safe Haven' is an adaptation from the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks ('The Notebook', 'Dear John'). Taking place in Los Angeles, the ceremony was also notable for other guests including Paris Hilton, Julianne Hough, Naomi Watts and Lea Michele. The entirely fan-voted for awards saw Taylor Swift take home the Favorite Country Artist gong, though she once again found herself in a 'Kanye' situation as Olivia Munn initially refused to give her the statuette. It was all for play though, with Swift laughing "Oh God... this always happens!"

Legendary London Stage School Denies Julianne Hough Abuse

Julianne Hough Ryan Seacrest Patsy Kensit Kelly Brook Russell Brand

Head honchos at London's foremost dance and drama school the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts have moved to distance themselves from suggestions from Hollywood star Julianne Hough that she was mentally and physically abused as a student there. The Footloose star, and girlfriend of Ryan Seacrest, told Cosmopolitan magazine that she suffered abuse as an aspiring dancer in London.

Hough claimed she was taunted at the school, saying "I was told if I ever went back to the United States, three things were going to happen. One: I was going to amount to nothing. Two: I was going to work at Whataburger. And three: I was going to end up a slut. So, it was like, I can't go back. I have to be this person." Most worryingly, Hough said the abuse got worse when she hit puberty.

The comments have prompted Academy bosses to release a statement insisting that media outlets suggesting the star was abused while studying there are wrong. It reads, "We feel this article has been extremely badly worded and if re-read, you will see that although it mentions our name, it does not say that any abuse took place here.We feel sure Julianne would herself be horrified to learn that she had caused her old school any embarrassment or harmed its good name."

Julianne Hough Reveals Painful Child Abuse

Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough - star of Dancing With The Stars - has revealed how she was abused as a child while training in London to become a dancer.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, Hough divulged the difficult truths of her time in England. "While I was in London, I was abused mentally, physically, everything," said the actress, now 24. "I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy facade because that was my job and my life," she added. "But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love." Hough said the abuse became worse "when I started hitting puberty, when I started becoming a woman and stopped being a little girl." In her mid-twenties, and blossoming in her own career, her story represents the minority of children who manage to escape the psychological perils of abuse in later life. "I'm a very forgiving person, and I don't want to hurt anybody," she explained. "What's past is past."

Her admission adds to an increasingly bleak picture for child abuse in London. Since the hundreds of claims made against the late Jimmy Savile, causing a widespread investigation into the practise of entertainment institutions with regards to the safety of children.

Very Good
This raucous trawl through 80s power ballads, rock anthems and gigantic hair is a lot of fun, partly because it throws so many big stars into against-type roles in which they get to sing and dance. But the plot couldn't be any thinner or it wouldn't exist at all.

Small-town girl Sherrie (Hough) takes the bus to 1987 Hollywood to become a rock star. There she meets Drew (Boneta), who has the same dream and works in the famed Bourbon Room on the Sunset Strip. He convinces the owner (Baldwin) to hire her as a barmaid just as diva-rocker Stacee Jaxx (Cruise) comes to play a major gig. Buzzing around him are a Rolling Stone journalist (Akerman) wanting an interview and a right-winger (Zeta-Jones) trying to protect the children from the evils of rock-n-roll.
