The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies has described the Anthony Weiner sex scandal as "the gift that just keeps on giving" as she is convinced the politician's story will influence the next series of her Tv show.

The former E.R. regular plays a lawyer whose politician husband is jailed amid a sex and corruption scandal, and the actress admits she is fascinated by the case of New York City mayoral candidate Weiner.

Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 amid a row over saucy pictures, during which he was forced to admit he had "exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature" with a number of women over the years, and his political comeback was dealt another blow last week (ends28Jul13) when more X-rated snaps leaked online.

Margulies admits she has been paying close attention to Weiner's headline-grabbing story, and insists she can see it influencing her Tv series.

She tells E! Online, "I would never want to benefit from someone else's pain but I have been emailing (our producers) for two weeks now. It is the gift that just keeps on giving. It is shocking that in our fifth season, this show is more relevant than ever."

However, Margulies admits she feels for Weiner's wife Huma Abedin, adding, "I feel like everyone is jumping to conclusions with Weiner's wife Huma. We don't know what's happening behind closed doors. If I have learned one thing from this character it is, 'Judge not, lest ye be judged.' You're not in her shoes. Huma has a one-year-old baby (sic). We don't know what her daily life is like. And we don't know what he's saying to her.

"We see him how he wants us to see him as a politician... But I don't know if he goes home at night and gets down on his knees and says, 'Help me deal with this problem.' It benefits our show, the writers just happen to tap into that on this show and I get to play her."

Asked whether the story will be reflected in upcoming plot lines, she adds, "I can't imagine it not."
