Jude Law said that he was "speechless" after being awarded a prestigious French honour for his contribution to the arts.
The actor, who has appeared in numerous films including The Talented Mr Ripley and Cold Mountain, was handed the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres medal by the French ambassador at the Residence de France in west London.
Ambassador Gerard Errera praised Law's talent before presenting him with the medal.
Upon accepting the award, Law said: "My mum and dad have lived in France for 15 years, so really it is a country I share as my home."
Previous recipients of the award include Leonardo Dicaprio, David Bowie and Meryl Streep.
No Doubt Law will be delighted to have the spotlight focusing on his career; in the last few years his personal life has dominated news following his divorce from Sadie Frost and high-profile relationship with Sienna Miller.
