As for the others, main character Lindsay was played by Linda Cardellini, who is now perhaps best remembered for playing Thelma in 'Scooby Doo' alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jnr. While her onscreen brother Sam, John Francis Daley, went on to star in 'Bones' and co write ‘Horrible Bosses’. His fellow ‘geek’ Martin Starr continued his relationship with Apatow appearing ’Knocked Up’ as Martin. Alongside the main characters there's plenty of star spotting to be done with the show’s guest stars. Apatow’s wife Leslie Mann makes a one off appearance and you can look out for a very young Shia LaBeouf and also Ben Stiller.

The now all star cast aside it’s no surprise that ‘Freaks and Geeks’ regularly tops lists of shows that were cancelled way too soon. The short lived series had so much to offer and didn't even get to fully realise it’s potential. Judd Apatow has never shied away from talking about how much the show meant to him, even saying ‘whenever I see an opportunity to use any of the people from 'Freaks and Geeks', I do it. It's a way of refusing to accept that the show was canceled. In my head, I can look at 'Knocked Up' as just an episode of Seth's character getting a girl pregnant. All of the movies relate in my mind in that way, as the continuous adventures of those characters.’

Whilst sometimes nowadays you can sit back and watch an Apatow offering and find it all a bit same-y and slightly lacking comedic originality, ‘Freaks and Geeks’ was something else. It’s a testament to the show’s enduring popularity that 14 years on people are still talking and writing about it and asking for cast reunions. In 2012 the cast did reunite for a Vanity Fair article and accompanying photos. So should Apatow still be taking revenge for his cancelled show? Definitely, especially if it means we can keep looking back over ‘Freaks and Geeks’ and introducing it to a whole new audience.
