The Heartlight Set

Elliot smith once said: "There has to be a certain amount of darkness in my songs for the happiness to matter." And that is very typical of Joy Zipper. The Heartlight Set is an album of great contrast. Songs dealing with loss and despair are masqueraded behind luscious sweeping harmonies and 60’s tinged backdrops, leaving you with that warm glow of sunshine you got from 60’s bands like “the Beach Boys”.

Previous releases from New York’s oddest couple have seen them drowned in a swirl of poor production and some times poor songs. But here we have an album brimming with confidence and a more mature sound. Songs like “Your So Good” and “Go Tell the World” have set Joy Zipper apart from their past and show signs of a band who could achieve great things.

The Heartlight Set is a perfect album for a lazy summer and will bring a ray of sunshine on even the dullest of British summer days.
