Avengers Assemble! And you, Joss Whedon ! The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios, until the end of 2015. Writing and directing The Avengers 2 will be a part of that deal, which is also said to include TV and film work. According to this week's report, Joss will be expected to create a Marvel-related TV series for the ABC network. On Tuesday (August 7, 2012), the CEO of Disney told the press that the company has initiatives in the pipeline to "leverage the power of the Avengers" across the company.
Given the phenomenal success of the Avengers movie, it will come as no surprise that the studio are planning a sequel but having Whedon on board again will be a relief for the studio bosses. They'll also be glad that he's taking on the TV series; Whedon has great form when it comes to popular TV shows, as he's best known for creating Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the equally-popular spin-off show, Angel. When it comes to creating TV shows that gather a cult following, Whedon is the go-to guy.
Marvel Studios released a statement to the press, to say "Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel's The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at Abc. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel's cinematic universe."
