Yogi Bear Review

OK
There's no real reason for this live action/animation hybrid version of the classic cartoon besides the fact that digital effects allowed them to do it.

But at least it's rather undemanding good fun while it lasts.

At Jellystone Park, Yogi Bear and his sidekick Boo Boo (voiced by Aykroyd and Timberlake) drive Ranger Smith (Cavanagh) crazy with their picnic-stealing antics. But just as they reach a kind of agreement, things are complicated by the arrival of nature expert Rachel (Faris), who wants to make a documentary about the talking bears. Meanwhile, the local mayor (Daly) decides to sell the park to logging companies to pay the city deficit, luring Smith's sidekick Jones (Miller) in as an accomplice. It's going to take a miracle to save the park.

Robert Downey Jr. To Play Talking Dog

Robert Downey Jr. has signed to star as Mr. Peabody in a new animated feature.

The 'Sherlock Holmes' star will take on the role of the genius dog - who along with his pet boy Sherman, appears in the 'Rocky and Bullwinkle Show' - in the big screen tale of his adventures as he travels through time using his WABAC time machine, learning about history's greatest figures.

Director Rob Minkoff said the movie will also focus on Mr. Peabody's origins, explaining: "Mr. Peabody is this genetic anomaly. He does have brothers and sisters, all of them non-speaking, no super-smart dogs. He's an outcast, but has overcome it by being so great at so many things."

Tooth Fairy Review

Weak
This comedy is essentially a goofy premise with some nutty dialog and set pieces pasted onto it. But it's watchably entertaining, even though the filmmakers miss almost every opportunity for sublime absurdity.

Hockey star Derek (Johnson) is tired of being treated like a has-been, and is trying to prove he still deserves the nickname "Tooth Fairy", because he knocks his opponents' teeth out. But while Derek tries to settle down with girlfriend Carly (Judd) and her kids (Ellison and Whitlock), hot upstart Mick (Sheckler) is stealing the spotlight. Then Derek finds out he has to fill in for the real Tooth Fairy for two weeks, overseen by fairy godmother Lily (Andrews) and a caseworker (Merchant) with wing envy.

Surviving Christmas Review

OK
Halloween hasn't arrived yet and we're already getting the first holiday film of the season. Despite opening to the tune of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," the timing of Surviving Christmas could not feel worse. We haven't even set our clocks back, and the trees haven't lost their leaves, but we're supposed to believe that Christmas is right around the corner? Fat chance, Santa -- this film won't even survive long enough to see turkey day. But, it's just that kind of attitude that makes this spiteful little movie work.

Ben Affleck plays the lonely but wealthy media marketing executive Drew Latham. He prefers to ditch his family this holiday and take his materialistic girlfriend Missy (Jennifer Morrison) on a first-class trip to Fiji. Missy emphatically rejects his offer and dumps him for wanting to take her away from her family at Christmas. At the advice of Missy's quack psychologist, Drew's therapy is to write down all of his grievances with his family and burn them in front of his childhood home. While this ridiculously manufactured scenario presents a good treatment option for Drew, to the rest of us, it reeks of rotten eggnog.
