Song title: Girl In The War
Josh Ritter's follow up to Hello Starling will be released on March 20th 2006.
Recorded in Bear Creek Studios outside of Seattle with Brian Deck (Modest Mouse and Iron & Wine) at the producing helm, the album reflects Ritter's attempts to internalise and postage stamp a year of deep global unrest that his country has both shaped and been shaped by.
Often flashing between the twin escapisms of nostalgia and utopianism, the songs on The Animal Years also admit to (and find a new poetic voice in) a nearly paralyzing ambivalence concerning the present. In its yearning for a simpler safer future/past and an understanding of the turmoils of the present The Animal Years parallels the writings of Mark Twain (Life On The Mississipi and Letters from the Earth) and the letters of Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, both of which Josh took inspiration from in his desire to catalogue a moment.
1. Girl In The War, 2. Wolves, 3. Monster Ballads, 4. Lillian, Egypt, 5. Idaho, 6. In The Dark, 7. One More Mouth, 8. Good Man, 9. Best For The Best, 10. Thin Blue Flame, 11.Here At The Right Time
A personal insight into American life and a beautiful album that takes the effortless lyricism, insistent melodies and genteel elegance of Hello Starling to another level.
