American football fans Josh Duhamel and rapper Snoop Dogg have paid tribute to former college coach Joe Paterno, who died on Sunday morning (22Jan12).
Paterno passed away at the age of 85 following a battle with lung cancer.
He enjoyed a successful career as the head coach at Pennsylvania State University (Psu) for 46 years before he was fired in November (11) for allegedly failing to take action against assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, who has been charged with molesting young boys over a 15-year period.
However, Transformers star Duhamel refused to let the scandal overshadow Paterno's achievements at Psu and he's marked the coach's death with a touching message on his Twitter.com blog.
He writes, "Joe Paterno you will be remembered for all the good you did and all the young people you've inspired. Rest in peace."
Snoop Dogg adds, "Rip joe paw. Great man n coach put over 300 kids n the nfl sad But true we miss u jow paw (sic)!! :'("
Kim Kardashian's mother Kris Jenner and model-turned-fashion designer Kimora Lee Simmons also marked Paterno's passing online, while Tom Cruise's teenage son Connor tweets, "Rip Joe Paterno. Although his passing came during a time of scandal, I will remember his (sic) for what he was to the game of football. #Legend".
