The son of Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks has lost a wrongful death lawsuit filed against him following the 2010 passing of his fashion designer girlfriend.
Nicholas Brooks pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder last year (11) after the body of Sylvie Cachay was found in an overflowing bathtub in a New York hotel room.
Cachay's family held Brooks responsible for her passing and filed a civil suit - but he failed to respond to the legal papers and a default judgement was granted against the 25 year old on Friday (08Jun12). Damages will be determined at a later date.
The Brooks family has endured a tough few years - You Light Up My Life composer Joseph Brooks committed suicide last year (11) while awaiting trial over allegations he lured women to his apartment and sexually assaulted them. He pleaded not guilty to a number of charges in 2009.
