The son of Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge following the death of his fashion designer girlfriend at a New York hotel.
Nicholas Brooks appeared in court in Manhattan on Tuesday (04Jan11) and denied killing Sylvie Cachay, whose body was found in an overflowing bathtub in her room at SoHo House in the early hours of 9 December (10).
Brooks, 24, was initially accused of strangulation and attempted murder, but the charge was upgraded to second-degree murder after officials ruled Cachay died from a combination of strangulation and drowning.
