Fidel (2002) Review


Bad
A sentimental and suprisingly pro-Castro docudrama, Fidel is a completely one-sided love letter to Fidel Castro, overlooking decades of near-terror-level dictatorship of the country.

At 140 minutes long, it will try the patience of even the most dedicated viewer. The first half of the film follows Castro the protester, with long scenes in back rooms discussing his politics and unhappiness with then President Batista. Then long scenes as he plans a coup. Then a short bit of action as he completes the coup. Then long scenes as emerging dictator (mostly in back offices, planning and scheming).
