Anaconda Review

Bad
Really awful giant snake movie, notable for Jon Voight's worst role ever, where he uses the pet phrase "baby bird" repeatedly and is unforgettably swallowed whole by the creature, not to mention an early Jennifer Lopez appearance. Catch it on Cinemax or something if you feel you must, but we're hard-pressed to find anything worth recommending in this wannabe camp classic that turns out to be a wholly unbelievable camp disaster.

Princess Of Thieves Review

Weak
Like father, like daughter, right? This Disney fable continues the legend of Robin Hood via his young daughter Gwyn (Keira Knightley, who had a small part as Amidala's #6 assistant in Star Wars: Episode I), who chops off her long locks and follows in dear old dad's footsteps (literally -- she has a romance with a royal, enters an archery tournament in disguise, and fights the evil king). The plot is virtually indistinguishable from the traditional tale, only with a zit-free, teeth-whitened, Disney Channel-friendly kid in the lead and the ultimate goal being to save dad from execution. Gulp! (Well, don't worry, it's all tamely G-rated, or essentially so.)

The Mummy Review

Very Good

Every inch a traditional, joyously corny, pith helmetswashbuckler flick -- complete with damsel in distress -- Universal's post-modernremake of "The Mummy" is a masterful marriage of '30s adventure/horrorand self-cognizant, Millennium-era, thrill-a-minute action.

Packed with awesome CGI special effects and anchored byBrendan Fraser, an ideal dashing-but-scruffy, lantern-jawed hero, thereisn't much left of the 1932 Boris Karloff original here, but as good old-fashionedadventure goes, this "Mummy" is giddy, low-brow fun.

Fraser stars as an soldier of fortune in 1923, leadinga group of treasure hunters and archeologists to a mythological 3,000-year-oldEgyptian city he stumbled on to once before. During their dig, the groupinadvertently awakens an undead and unfriendly mummy -- an ancient priestwho was buried alive in a sarcophagus filled with flesh-eating scarab beetlesmillennia ago for diddling a Pharaoh's mistress, and now he wants her back.
