Hollywood film producer Jon Peters has been ordered to pay his former assistant more than $3 million (£1.9 million) for sexual harassment.
Shelly Morita filed a lawsuit against Peters in 2006, claiming she quit her job after he fondled her at his Malibu home and climbed into bed with her in an Australian hotel room while they were working on Superman Returns in 2005.
Morita claimed she was unable to find work in Hollywood after leaving Peters' employment because of his power in the industry.
On Friday (26Aug11), Morita was awarded $822,000 (£513,750) in compensatory damages and $2.5 million (£1.6 million) in punitive damages after a jury ruled she was subjected to sexual harassment and a hostile work environment.
Peters' attorneys are planning to appeal the verdict, reports City News Service.
