Jon Hamm is set to guest star in Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Squarepants. The 44-year-old actor, who is best known for portraying Don Draper in AMC’s Mad Men, will appear in one episode on the next series of the animated show as Don Grouper.

The characters’ names aside, here’s some striking similarities between Hamm’s Mad Men role and his upcoming animated character. Like Draper, Group is the head of an ad agency: Grouper, Goby & Koi. He’s also a smooth-talker and a charmer, according to reports in People.

Nickelodeon confirmed the news on Thursday (24th September) and released a sketch of Don Grouper (see below). They described Grouper as “a charismatic head ad executive” who possesses a “sharp mind and devastating charm.” They added “when Don’s in the room, everyone laps up his words like overpriced organic honey.”

Hopefully for children’s TV at least, the similarities will end there and they may cut out the chain smoking, heavy drinking and womanizing Draper was well-known for.

Hamm has barely been out of the spotlight this year with the final season of Mad Men drawing to a close. Earlier this month, he won an Emmy Award for Best Actor for his role as Don Draper after being nominated in the same category for seven years in a row. However, the news has not always been so positive. Hamm was admitted to rehab for alcoholism earlier this year and recently announced his separation from his partner of 18 years, Jennifer Westfeldt

Hopefully things for Hamm are on the up, with SpongeBob SquarePants his latest casting. He’s currently filming Keeping Up With the Joneses, a comedy about a suburban couple who get caught up in international espionage. He’s also set to star in the sci-fi Marjorie Prime and the political thriller High Wire Act
