Jon Favreau may have relinquished the director's chair for Iron Man 3 but he's clearly not washed his hands of the project entirely as he'll be appearing on the other side of the camera. The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed that Favreau has sealed a deal to reprise his role as Happy Hogan, Iron Man's trusty bodyguard and sidekick. Favreau and Robert Downey Jr will now be able to resurrect their on-scren relationship, though it is not yet known how large Favreau's role will be this time round.
Still on a high, no doubt from the global success of The Avengers, Robert Downey Jr and company began shooting the new Marvel Studios movie on Wednesday (May 23, 2012), in North Carolina. This third instalment in the Iron Man franchise will be directed by Shane Bang - the man who directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - and features a stellar cast line-up. Gwyneth Paltrow returns as Pepper Potts, whilst a host of new stars will be introduced, including Rebecca Hall, Guy Pearce, Ashley Hamilton and Ben Kingsley. Favreau's appearance as Happy Hogan was a cameo, in the first Iron Man movie, though the role was extended somewhat in the second.
Hollywood Reporter have interpreted the move as a nod of approval from Favreau to Shane Bang, as well as show of solidarity between the old director and Marvel Studios. No doubt in can be seen as a mark of respect from Bang to his predecessor, as well who, after all, helped to create the success of the Iron Man movies and provide Bag with such a great platform from which to work.
