Rocker Jon Bon Jovi roused the crowd at a fundraising bash for Democratic US presidential hopeful John Kerry in New York last night (08JUL04).

Bon Jovi, an avid and vocal fan of President George W Bush's election rival, opened the event at the Big Apple's Radio City Music Hall with a performance of George Harrison hit HERE COMES THE SUN - changing the chorus to, "It's been four years since it was clear."

Bon Jovi then told the crowd, "I do believe America loves this ticket."

The crowd of 5,500 - who paid between $250 (GBP140) and $25,000 (GBP14,000) for tickets - gave Kerry and running mate SENATOR JOHN EDWARDS a seven minute standing ovation.

The fundraiser raised a staggering $750,000 (GBP415,000) for Kerry's campaign.

Other performers included Mary J Blige, Wyclef Jean and comedians WHOOPI GOLDBERG and Chevy Chase.
