Johnny Depp has teamed up with Illumination Entertainment and Infinitum Nihil to develop a live action movie about the life of children's author and illustrator Dr. Seuss, aka, Theodor Geisel. The Hollywood star will produce the project, but also has the opportunity to play the lead role, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Having already brought to life the Mad Hatter for Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland', Depp is regarded as the ideal candidate to play the iconic and eccentric Dr Seuss. Born in 1904, Geisel spent much of his youth drawing comic strips, before moving on to political cartoons during World War II. He rose to become one of the best loved children's authors, selling more than 200 million copies of its books worldwide. Universal and Illumination have already enjoyed commercial success with several Seuss creations, most notably, How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey and The Cat in the Hat, with Mike Myers. They are currently in post-production with an animated adaptation of Seuss' 'The Lorax'. Depp will next star in 'The Rum Diary' and the Martin Scorsese directed 'Hugo', about an orphan who lives inside the walls of a Paris railway station.
Still regarded as one of the most profitable actors in the world, Johnny Depp's 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' has grossed over one billion this year.
