Johnny Depp has met with Navajo leaders on the set of the new The Lone Ranger movie to make sure they're OK with him playing Native American hero Tonto and filming on sacred land.
Depp and co-star Armie Hammer held a meet-and-greet with Navajo Nation elders Ben Shelly and Rex Lee Jim recently to swap gifts and pose for photos.
Shelly tells U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight the movie superstar was gracious and patient and he appreciated the goodwill gesture of a pre-filming powwow.
He says, "He was respectful, along with very patient with picture taking.
"It was a great honour and privilege to meet Johnny Depp and filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer. We are honoured the movie is being filmed here on the Navajo Nation. The Navajo Nation has beautiful landscape and we are glad it is being shared through filmmaking."
