Johnny Depp is on course for a Best Actor Oscar as he streaks ahead in a new online survey to find the movie star who is most overdue an Academy Awards win.
Following Kate Winslet's 2009 Best Actress win after five losing bids, website GoldDerby.com has asked readers to pick the star most deserving of an Oscar win after losing out as a nominee.
And three-time loser Depp leads the race with 43 per cent of the vote - well ahead of Leonardo DiCaprio, who picked up 18 per cent.
Jeff Bridges, Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., Ralph Fiennes, Ed Harris and Brad Pitt are also in with a fighting chance, picking up anything from four to six per cent of the vote.
Both Depp and DiCaprio are strong early picks for 2009/2010 Oscar nominations - Depp stars as bank robber John Dillinger in Public Enemies, while DiCaprio reteams with Martin Scorsese for Shutter Island.
