John Lennon planned to become a Scottish laird before he died, asking his cousin STANLEY PARKES to find him a Scottish Highland estate. The late beatle was making plans to become a Scottish landowner when he was shot dead aged 40 on 8 December 1980 by deranged fan Mark Chapman. Parkes says, "Shortly before he died, I got a letter saying he wanted to live in Scotland on a hunting and shooting estate. "He would not have lived on it all year round but just for a few months. John just loved Scotland and he wanted me to look after the estate for the use of the family."
