Billy Crystal and John Goodman are interviewed about their new 'Monsters Inc.' prequel 'Monsters University' in which they star as Mike and Sulley. They talk about getting back into character, their characters initial relationship and why the college setting is so fitting.
'I watched the first movie again just to hear him', reveals Billy. 'Once I hear his [John's] voice and we're together, then it's just a pair of slippers.' Talking about Mike and Sulley's first meeting, Billy explains, 'My guy's a little put off by him for a couple of reasons: one, he's tall and he's good-looking and he's got fur and. I have this sort of armadillo like skin and I'm little and he's interrupting my flow.' John adds how their friendship develops towards the end. 'They finally need each other', he says. 'It's not easy for Sulley because he thinks he's got all the answers and he sure doesn't.' On why a college setting works well, Billy explains, 'I think [the college setting] is the perfect setting for a comedy like this because the first one came out 12 years ago so most of those kids were 6 or 7 when they loved 'Monsters Inc.', now they're the same age that we are [their characters] so they can identify with them much more,' before John adds, 'It's the time of life when you're still on a rough form, all the edges aren't sanded, there's a lot of whittling down that needs to be done.'
