John Galliano is set to enter rehabilitation following his drunken rant at a Paris bar.
John Galliano, the world renowned fashion designer who was fired by Christian Dior for making anti-Semitic remarks in a Parisian bar, has left France to enter rehabilitation, according to friends who spoke anonymously to the New York Times.Galliano has reportedly been persuaded to accept treatment for alcohol problems by close colleagues that may include Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. Although the treatment centre is not yet known, the newspaper suggests that the likely destination is 'The Meadows', a facility in Arizona where Elton John and Donatella Versace have been treated. The 50-year-old designer was dismissed by fashion house Dior on Tuesday (1st March 2011) after a video surfaced of him professing his love for Adolf Hitler and making anti-Semitic remarks to a woman in a bar. Meanwhile, the US stylist Patricia Field has come to Galliano's defence, sending out an e-mail to 500 friends and members of the media titled "In Praise of John Galliano', according to the New York Magazine. She later told Wwd.com, "John lives in theatre. It's theatre. It's farce. But people in fashion don't recognize the farce in it".
Speculation on John Galliano's replacement at Dior has intensified in the past 24-hours, with Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci thought to be the frontrunner. Phoebe Philo and Marc Jacobs are also rumoured to be in the frame for one of fashion's most sought after roles.
