John Cleese cancelled plans to marry in Monaco before relocating his wedding to the Caribbean.
The veteran British funnyman, 72, wed for the fourth time when he exchanged vows with Jennifer Wade, 41, at a villa on the island of Mustique on 2 August (12).
The couple walked down the aisle in front of just six guests, and Cleese reveals they had organised a lavish ceremony in Monaco but called off their big day after deciding they wanted a smaller, more intimate wedding.
Cleese tells Britain's Hello! magazine, "We had contemplated getting married in Monaco in September - flying friends and family out - it was all organised. Then we looked at each other one evening and said, 'We don't want this'... My other three weddings only had about a dozen people there. It means you can connect with everyone."
Wade adds, "It becomes all about the organisation and making sure everyone else is ok instead of being able to relax and really experience what is happening."
The jewellery designer also reveals the date of 2 August (12) had a poignant significance for the couple: "My cousin Heather was my best friend... She died bravely of cancer last December and 2 August is the anniversary of her birthday... She loved John and wanted us to get married. That's why we chose the day."
Cleese was previously married to his Fawlty Towers co-star Connie Booth, actress Barbara Trentham, and Alyce Faye Eichelberger, who he split from in 2008, sparking a bitter multi-million dollar divorce.
