Comedian John Cleese has confirmed frantic hoteliers like his 1970's character BASIL FAWLTY do exist - because he's encountered the majority of them. The British funnyman is renowned for his performance as the bumbling, bad-tempered hotel boss in sitcom FAWLTY TOWERS and the character continues to haunt him. In a classic case of life imitating art, Cleese was once given a 9am wake-up call at 3am, while in another hotel, a member of staff requested the Monty Python star's autograph, before demanding Cleese show identification before checking in. He says, "You just couldn't write scenes like that."
