John Boyega is being mentored by Robert Downey Jr.

The 23-year-old actor, who plays a major role in the JJ Abrams-directed 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', has revealed he's turned to the 'Iron Man' star for some much-needed advice ahead of the movie's release.

John shared: ''I'm being mentored by Robert Downey Jr at the moment. He's helped me prepare for how my life is going to change and that has been inspiring.''

The London-born star said Robert is the perfect mentor as he's seen both sides of fame, having recovered from drug problems to emerge as one of the top-earning Hollywood actors.

He reflected: ''I'm talking to someone who understands the power of choices, both positive and negative.''

And despite being cast in one of the most anticipated movies in recent years, John - who grew up in a deprived part of London - insisted he's barely changed.

He told V magazine: ''Most of the friends I have made in L.A. are just normal guys.

''One of my friends works at the airport. The only difference is I'm like, 'I'm going to go to Planet Jakku now while you go to your office.'''
