Rocker Joe Perry feared the worst when he saw bandmate Steven Tyler after his recent stage fall - because the singer was covered with blood.
Aerosmith have been forced to halt their North American tour to allow Tyler to recover after breaking his shoulder and injuring his head and neck after he mistimed a dance step during a show in Sturgis, South Dakota last week (05Aug09) - and fell.
The band postponed Friday's (07Aug09) concert in Winnipeg, Canada to allow the singer time to recover, but Perry fears Tyler's rehabilitation will take much longer - and force the cancellation of the remainder of their tour.
And, speaking on radio station 94.7 WCSX in Michigan on Monday (10Aug09), the guitarist admitted he initially feared Tyler would never return to the stage.
He says, "His shoulder blade was broken in two places and when I saw him walk by he was bleeding pretty bad, but there was nothing internal... It was like he was in a bad bar fight and somebody had a baseball bat."
Perry reveals his bandmate is back in his native Boston, Massachusetts, awaiting a final verdict on his injuries: "We'll know in the next couple of days what we're gonna do."
The guitarist admits Aerosmith fans have been hugely supportive - but he's sure that's because the band rarely scrap shows.
He adds, "We've probably cancelled kinda two dates in 25 years and it all just hit us in one bunch this last couple of years."
Perry, himself, was the cause of cancelled shows last year (08) and early in 2009 when knee surgery forced him out of action.
