British singer Joe McElderry was caught up in chaos unfolding across London on Monday (08Aug11) as he filmed a music video close to rioters.
The star, who won Britain's The X Factor in 2009, was recording the promo for his next single in a building in the U.K. capital's Hackney area when hundreds of thugs targeted nearby streets.
MCElderry saw cars on fire amid the unrest, but he's spoken out to reassure fans he's safe following the disturbance, which carried on throughout Monday night.
In a series of posts on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "That's a wrap!! Video is done!! We were filming in a location building! Right in the middle of Hackney where the riots were!!!
"It's all kicking off! Cars on fire and everything! So sad that these people are doing this to there (sic) own towns!! Just left now got out safe!"
Meanwhile, singer Will Young, who lives in the area, was lucky to avoid the violence - but his local community was also targeted by hoodlums.
He tweeted, "Oh dear these riots are dangerously close... Restaurant 100 yards up the road from me just been attacked. Very sad and frightening."
