Joaquin Phoenix hates promoting his movies once he finished filming them, because he's not "a salesman".

The 31-year-old, who stars in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, insists he did not decide to become an actor to get attention.

He says, "That's not why I became an actor.

"I'm coming to terms with it slowly, that I have to do this and I'm contractually obliged!

"But I didn't sign up to be a salesman.

"When people say to me, 'Why should I go see your film?' I'm like, 'F**k it, don't see it. Do what you like.'"
