Comedienne Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81.
The Fashion Police host passed away on Thursday (04Sep14) at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital after she was removed from life support following a cardiac and respiratory arrest during a routine throat operation at a nearby clinic on 28 August (14).
Following the ordeal, the legendary Tv personality was placed in a medically-induced coma and on Wednesday (03Sep14) she was moved from the intensive care unit of the hospital to a private room, where her daughter Melissa Rivers informed fans she was resting comfortably.
However, on Thursday, Melissa announced the sad news of her mother's death in a statement, which reads: "It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.
"Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated. My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."
