Karl Lagerfeld sees himself as the ''Joan of Arc of design'' because he just does whatever his ''inner voices'' tell him.
The 82-year-old fashion designer has compared himself to the French heroine - who believed God told her how to lead the French army to victory as a teenager in the 15th century - because he does whatever his ''inner voices'' say he should.
Asked whether he thinks about the commercial appeal of items when he's designing, he replied: ''I never think about that. I just do what my inner voices tell me. I'm the Joan of Arc of design. I don't ask myself these kind of questions. I'm not a marketing person. I work with instinct. Sometimes I'm surprised myself.''

The 21-year-old 'Hunger Games' actress had the chance to follow in the footsteps of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera and land a TV role with the company, but turned it down because it wasn't the direction she wanted to go in.
She told Stella magazine:''(In one audition I was) asked if I could sing, and I was like, 'No. To be honest I don't think I'm a Disney kind of kid'.

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way is attempting to perfect a painting that captures his historic heroine Joan of Arc in between shows on their current Projekt Revolution tour.
The avid artist is a huge fan of the heretic-turned-saint and feels compelled to "do serious paintings" of her.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "Joan Of Arc is my favourite historical-legendary-whatever figure. Number one, it's a boyish, waifish girl in a suit of armour on a white horse, and that's badass.
"I've always been attracted to that character because it was somebody who was willing to die for what they believed in, and they were probably f**king crazy and, like, touched by the hand of God, and I believe in that s**t... I love Joan Of Arc."
Jenny McCarthy is the people's favourite to play Anna Nicole Smith in a planned new movie about the tragic model, after winning 62 per cent of an online poll.
The actress/model beat Tori Spelling and Pamela Anderson in the quirky TMZ.com poll - but she's not sure how to take the news.
MCCarthy says, "I don't really think that's a compliment... My friends were calling me up and saying, 'You're in the lead...' I go, 'Thanks?'
"I mean, 'You're in the lead to play Joan of Arc' - 'Right on!' 'MOTHER TERESA...' OK, that's maybe stretching it. I mean, come on."
Many of the tracks on My Chemical Romance's hit new album THE BLACK PARADE were inspired by a creepy painting singer/songwriter Gerard Way found in a haunted mansion.
The band moved into the spooky Paramour Mansion to write and record the new album and Way stumbled across the mysterious painting one day while he was wracking his brain for inspiration.
He explains, "I had found this painting called MARCH OF THE SAINTS in this dungeon bathroom in the house and (I) thought about processions, Joan of Arc, stuff from childhood, all this Catholic guilt and doubt.
"I started investigating that and soon saw patterns in the songs."
American actress Seberg became a successful film star in France before dying of a drug overdose at the age of 40 in 1979, and Dunst believes her life story would make a fascinating movie.
